Sometimes when you are searching through a storage box you stumble across something that takes your breath. I had such a moment recently. I found this photograph. Sitting. Waiting. It’s a photograph that is 52 years old. A photograph of a young 16 year old who had found the man of her dreams. (as you do at 16!!!)
I was attending a sports coaching camp in Narrabeen, Sydney and met this delicious young man who stole my heart and held it in his hands for a few years. We visited each others homes (geographically we didn’t live close by).
As time went on I began to believe the lie that most childhood sexual assault survivors tell themselves. i.e. “how could YOU ever be good enough for him or his loving and close-knit family”? I came from a fractured dysfunctional family. I convinced myself that our lives could not collide, and broke both our hearts by ending the relationship.
Here staring at me was a memory. So vivid. So memorable. So vital. I had to scrap it immediately!!!
Here is the result. I’ve used Stampin’ Up! Moroccan DSP. It suited the aged color of the photo and was quite kind to the coloring. I’ve left space to journal some personal thoughts. I’ve even left space for a wee envelope on the right hand side of the page because I still have a letter that Peter wrote me and I’ll pop that into the envelope. Another beautiful memory preserved. Thanks Stampin’Up! for making it so very easy.
Did you know that during the month of October if you buy three (3) packs of DSP you get a fourth one free (offer excludes speciality papers). Contact me now to place your order.
