Address side of self-sealing card

When I was much younger (i.e. 14 or 15 years old) which by the way was not that long ago (snigger, snigger) my time was filled with writing letters to pen-friends.  In those days you could purchase from the post office ‘letter cards’.  They were approximately the size of our standard cards and had a perforated edge right around the outside.  You simply wrote your message on the inside, then sealed it down.  They were pre-stamped so all you had to do was address it and then the recipient tore-off the perforated edge to reveal the letter inside.
Letter cards seem to have disappeared over the years, along with the art of letter writing.  Such a shame really.  It was such a buzz to receive a letter, delivered by the man on his red bike and who blew that whistle so loudly to let you know that ‘you have mail!’
Nostalgia aside,  this stamp set, to me, smacked of that era.  So I’ve set about today creating my own ‘letter card’.  The back side of the card has the area to address your card (you need to place on a postage stamp of course)  and the picture part of the card is on the reverse, your message is inside!!!!  The recipient can still display your card for all to see, you’ve not used an insert and not used an envelope.  Think of the trees we’ll all save.
This technique/decoration needs some refining, but I couldn’t wait to share this idea with you.  Stay tuned over the next few days I’m going to create some actual postcards from this stamp set.  Wow!  this set has so many possibilities.
My sincere thanks go to Claire Daly from Art from the Heart (visit her blog by clicking her name on the menu at the sidebar) she really inspired me to give this set a try.  Thanks Claire!

Sue 001

Another gorgeous customer of mine, Sue, (Stampin’ Up! ® customers are the best!) came to my studio today to make the handbag and set of three cards that I had on my blog some weeks ago.  We’ve had a fabulous day stamping, talking, watercolouring, talking, cutting, talking, some lunch and more talking.  Anyway this is the first card that Sue made to fit into the handbag.  She was so pleased with the watercolouring and colour combo that we had to take a picture and post for all to see.  Well done Sue! (……and she didn’t think that she could watercolour!   Pffft!)

Stamp Set – Fifth Avenue

Cardstock – Pink Piroutte, Whispher White

Inks – Black Stazon, Whisper White

Ribbon – Riding Hood Red Taffeta (quickly becoming Sue’s favourite)

The circles were cut using my cuttlebug and nestabilities.

Well done Sue and thanks for a great day!!!!

Dianne 002

When you become a Stampin’ Up! ® Demonstrator you will find that very often your customers become your friends.  Such is the case with the person for whom I made this card.

Dianne started out in my life as an S.U. customer, before I knew it, I was calling her my friend.  She’s a gorgeous, caring lady who has been such a supportive influence in my life during some very difficult times.

So, today is her birthday and I’ve made this card for her.  Dianne is a definate no frills girl and just loves blue (as opposed to pink!)  Enjoy your day my friend,  and enjoy your card!

Terrific Tri-Fold!

August 6, 2009

Trifold 001

Lots of these great tri-fold cards have been shown on blogs over the past few months.  No wonder why!  They are a cinch to make, as decorative as you wish to make them.  You get two cards from one 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock and they still post in a standard C6 envelope!!  I’ve made some Christmas ones but this one is a favourite.  It’s using the Sweet Stems stamp set, which is a set of four stamps for $29.95.  Bargain!  I’ve also used lots of  ‘pen-to-rubber’ which normally I get a bit impatient with but this was fun.  I don’t usually use a lot from the Soft Subtle range but I truly enjoyed this adventure out of Earth Elements!!!  Give me a call for details on this class.

This card also allows you to use up all those fiddly bits of DS paper that you cannot bear to throw away.  I think that this style is a winner.  What do you think?
